Happy Mother's Day!

This week was full of EMOTIONS! I was sooooo happy to see my family and to see that everyone was happy and healthy! I cannot believe that my dad was the MOST worried about my health. I am glad that I am still his favorite daughter :) haha.
This week we had a great lesson with some new investigatores Rodrigo (he is from Belguim but is dating a Chilena and has a baby with her) and Solange. They are so cute. But Rodrigo is sooo hard to teach. He doesn't believe in God so we have to really just testify so much about how much this "energy" loves him. We went to their apartment this week and taught them about the Family Proclamation to the world. It was AMAZING! he told us that after we taught him the first day that he had a dream about the temple and having to chose to be with his girlfriend Solange and his daughter forever! He said that he really wants to live with them forever!! It was soo spiritual with the member that we brought with us too! I KNOW that he believes in God. We are going to work more with them this week!
Also we had our Zone Conference and I was able to call Hermana Vega again and I saw HERMANA SMOOT! I died. I love that girl. She is the best! We are trying to look for new families now. We have transfers next week so I will keep you guys updated! I have been having dreams that I am going to the bottom of the world!!! haha. We will see! Maybe then I will be able to see a penguin!!
I love you guys so much! Have a great week!! HAPPY WEDDING WEEK BLAKE AND AMY!! SEND PICSSSSSSSS

Ashes, Ashes we all fall down!

We stayed in the house for 3 days!
So this week was crazy again! On Thursday we had the third eruption of the Volcan Calbuco. To answer your questions. I live REALLY close the the volcano. There isn't a river that seperates us. It is 20 km from our area. (not sure how far that really is but that is what everyone says)
We had LOTS of ash this week. We are blessed though because it hasn't been as bad in other areas. But this week I felt like a vacation in the mission. We were inside for 3 days just watching church movies because we couldn't do anything else. It was horrible because then I was thinking about my FAMILY and imaging this BEAUTIFUL wedding that my brother is going to have. haha. But don't worry I have been fasting and praying and I am trying to stay focused.

On Monday the Santana family invited us over for their family home evening it was amazing! They taught US the plan of salvation with another investigator. It was really a humbling to see them teach us!
MIRACLE this week was with one investigator, Belen. She is from Punta Arenas (bottom of the world) anyways I am not sure if I have told you guys about her but she is AMAZING! She stopped us in the taxi and asked if we could come to her house to teach her. Well we have been teaching her lots. She CAME to church and she also wanted to see the baptism font because she wants to get baptized!!! MIRACLE!! Only thing is that she smokes a TON. During our lessons she had to go out and smoke. It is super awkward because we are trying to help her set goals but she feels like she can't do it sometimes. I didn't realize how much missionary work takes out of you physically. I am exhausted but I LOVE the work. It has rained lots this weekend so the ashes should be all cleared up now. We just have to pray there isn't another volcano erruption! haha.
Update on Daniela and Julio!! We finally had permission to leave our house so we went and visted them and they told us they are going to get married!! I told them that my brother is getting married and I won't be able to be there and they just got so sad and I asked if I could go to their wedding and they told me NO! haha, but they were just kidding. They told me I can help plan their wedding! Which is perfect because I will be an expert by the time I finally get married....not like I am thinking about Marriage! Don't worry!! haha
Well I cannot wait to Facetime my family and to talk to my beautiful family this Sunday. I am so grateful for everyone and their prayers. Now we just have to be careful that we don't get robbed like the sisters in Northern Chile! We are trying to be very careful now with our house. I live with 3 other sisters so we are being very careful. I know that Heavenly Father is protecting us!
Have a great week!!

Volcano Calbuco erupted

Hola,
Well this week was probably THE weirdest weeks I have had on my mission. For starters on Tuesday we had a lesson with Daniela and she said that her and her boyfriend want to get married!! Like WHAT! So happy for all these marriages!! (only because I am living through her...planning her wedding) That was such a great way to start off the week but then the week just got weirder and weirder.
Wednesday we were inside with Hermana Karina helping her with her wood boards that she makes (by the way I am going to buy one of her boards one day!) and then all of a sudden I looked out the window and there was a HUGE smoke cloud. Nothing I had ever seen before!! It was CRAZY!! We ran outside and took LOTS of pictures. The funny thing is that we just hiked up that Volcano in Feb. That was kinda scary. Wednesday night we slept with a member of the High Priest quorum and his family. It was so weird to sleep with members. We slept on the floor. I was so GRATEFUL for my sleeping bag. Seriously it is the best thing I brought! Everyone was freaking out and saying WE need to save water!! Because they were going to cut the water lines for some reason...I have no idea why so when we got to the family's house they were filling up all the buckets they had in their house with water!! Everyone was running and buying food too. Like hello...this is why we have 72 hour kits. haha. #prepared
Thursday was good we woke up and went back to our house. During the night there was another HUGE explotion with lava. The pictures that people took are pretty cool. We slept in our house Thursday night because we thought that everything was fine.
Friday we went to lunch and the volcano was still erupting but we had to eat so we left to go to a members house. As we were eating lunch we got a call from our district leader asking us where we were and telling us to go to the Bishop's house as fast as we could. That is when I started to freak out..just alittle. But I still had faith everything would be okay.
We stayed there for just an hour and then we got another call that we could leave the house. I felt like I was in 5th grade again with those fake fire alarms! But I was obedient and followed what I was supposed to do.
That day we were allowed to go out and work only if we had appointments. Lucky for us we had 2 lessons planned so we actually were able to work. It helped me keep my mind off of everything. We visited Pamela and another sister Susan. It was such a great lesson with Susan. She is amazing but is having problems with the Law of Chasity. I shared 2 Nephi 18:32 with her and my companion was freaking out because she was like "Hermana NO" the scripture is about how everyone is welcome in the church and how Jesus Christ won't cast us out of his synagage. It was a good scripture and it was exactly what she needed to hear. I have never felt the spirit really work through me to help her. I have NO idea what I even said but my Spanish was so clear. Usually as missonaries it is hard to be clear and straight forward with these touchy subjects (at least for me) but I felt like I just needed to ask her if she wanted us to teach her anymore or not. Because she isn't really progressing. But she was so clear and we felt so much better after having that lesson on what her needs are now! I am so grateful for that experience. After the lesson Hermana Marinho said she was praying so hard for me to say everything right. haha. Thanks to her prayers we were able to help Hermana Susan.
Friday night we slept over at our Sister Training Leaders house on the other side of the city to keep us away from the Volcano. It was so crazy. I am grateful for our area because it is so nice!! Saturday we had to stay inside all day but I am grateful for the time I had to really write in my journal.
Anyways so sorry the letter is sooo long but I had lots to update!!
I am grateful for this crazy experience. My lungs feel like they are going to burst from all the ashes but I am good. This week should be better! Most of the ash from the Volcano went to Argentina. I hope they are alright!
Love you all

Such a long week

Well I don't have much time because I was too busy reading everyones emails about everyone GETTING MARRIED!! What is that about?? I cannot even handle it. Everyone is moving on. haha. Just so you guys know I am still in Chile preaching the gospel...I hit my 10 month mark! So crazy. The months seem to go faster than the days. I am not even sure how that works but it does.

This week we had exchanges with our sister training leaders. Guess what!! Hermana Pierce (she was the sister training leader in Osorno when I started my mission) is in my Zone now! It was a BLAST! We had lots of stuff to catch up on. She told me that my other converts Diego and Daniela are doing so great! I was so happy to hear they are still strong in the gospel!
I have also learned this week a lot from Hermana Mariho and how I need to have patience. I am used to having my companions doing everything and I just follow. But with our companionship I am realizing that I have to do lots more. I am working on trying to walk slower because I am always like 10 steps ahead of her. haha. I am used to walking fast with my other comps but it is a good change. We had a really great inventory this week and I realized how awful of a companion I really am. I was doing everything and just letting her bare her testimony. I have really been humbled this week to realize that I need to really listen to her ideas and to not always do what I want to do. (I know that my dad just rolled his eyes at that remark! haha)

We had a GREAT lesson with Pamela. We made "kits" for her kids so that way they would have things to do during church to keep them busy because the last time she left early because they were wanting to leave. It was so awesome to see the change this Sunday and to see that Pamela was so happy to be at church with us and her 2 boys. Now we just have to get her boyfriend involved and we have to help them get married! It is hard work but we are PRAYING for miracles.

I love this mission. It is hard right now because we are really trying to find more people to teach but I am trying to be obedient and I am praying to feel happy everyday and to live in the moment. I know that this church is true. I feel so insignificant because I am 1 missionary out of thousands but I feel so much love and I know that Heavenly Father really knows and cares for each one of us individually. I can feel the love for my family when they email me and when I see that everyone is happy and getting married. Even though I know it will be hard to miss everyone's weddings I am praying for the strengh to help me forget myself and help others.
Until NEXT week!

Hermana Marinho from Brazil

Well this week was really fast! We have had lots of miracles this week! We worked really hard to get more members in our lessons and finally we were able to meet our goal. It feels so good to meet goals sometimes! I know that that isn't the most important thing but it sure does feel good! :)

So to start off we had a lesson with Daniela and her boyfriend Julio. They live together so on Tuesday (my last day with Hermana Smoot) we taught the law of chasity. We want them to progress and it is hard to tell someone "You have to get married in order to be baptized" like okayyy. haha. So we really had to follow the spirit. We focused on the temples and how we can be together forever when we are sealed in the temple with the ones we love. It was great and then we led into commandments and how they are a blessing and then we brought up the Law of Chasity. It was so funny because Julio said so what do we need to do in order to be baptized because we live together...everyone just looked at each other and then Hermana Smoot said in a really funny voice "Get married??" hahaha. Like it was a question. SO funny! Everyone just started laughing and the members that came with us for the lesson just started laughing so hard. But then we calmed down and the spirit was present. hahaha. Oh Hermana Smoot I miss that girl OH SO MUCH!!! We commited them to pray about the law of Chasity.

We then had a Family Home Evening with them and their neighbors who are members and are the same age. It was perfect!! We watched a video on the Plan of Salvation. It was a great video..made in the 90's but very good! haha.

One high this week was the fact that 4 of our investigators came to church! I am seriously so shocked!! WE are working really hard and seeing some of the fruit of our labors. Daniela came to church and asked for a priesthood blessing and she was so touched. Her and her boyfriend said that they have found the right path and are so happy in the church!! I found them watering their garden in January and now they just have changed so much! When we first contacted them they didn't believe in anything. And now she was asking for a priesthood blessing because she is going to have surgery tomorrow and she wanted some comfort. AMAZING!!!!
Also Pamela came to church. She also isn't married but lives with her boyfriend and 2 little boys.  But we have a family home evening tonight to talk about the law of chasity with the Santana Family! I cannot believe my converts are so willing to help with the missionary work! I love it. Hopefully it will go well. We are going to teach with the spirit!!

I love the mission! Winter is starting now...lots of rain!! LOTS of RAIN! I cannot even describe it is so crazy but I am praying I can make it through another winter. It is just so so cold. Please pray for me.

My companion is great! It is just hard getting adjusted to someone else and the way they teach. She is super sweet and little and just so inocent. haha. She is teaching me Porteguese! I will be so intelligent when I get home...look out WORLD!
Love you all! Have a great week!

Easter and General Conference

Hello everyone,
Well this week was soo crazy. LOTS have happened. First off we had an Open house at the church this week for Easter to get people to come in and have a tour of the church. We showed the video "Because He lives" and everyone loved it. We even had one girl ask us how she can join our church. She started bailing and said she has NEVER felt like this ever before. It was AMAZING. Hermana Smoot and I were in shock...like for reals...but too bad she doesnt live in our area. She actually lives in another Zone in Puerto Montt. Sad day but HEY she is going to be baptized!!

Also we had our Easter Activity!! It was super special. We had lots of people come and we had lots of help from the ward. We have one sister that has a cricket machine and she loves doing scrapbook so she helped us LOTS. We made a banner and made over 100 cupcakes. Everyone ate them SO fast. I cannot even believe it. It took sooo long to make them and they were all gone in like 5 min. But it was a great turn out. 3 of our investigators went too!! Daniela came and she had so much fun!

On a sad note...WE have transfers!! Hermana Smoot is going to Puerta Varas, which is like 20 min from where we are now. haha. And my new companion is Hermana Marinho from Brazil. I am excited but SUPER sad. I loved being Hermana Smoots companion. She really helped me so much enjoy the mission. But I know that we will see each other after the mission. I am so excited!!

We also had Conference!! How amazing was that right?? I was searching for more help this week. I want to share one of my questions that I was trying to get answers from. I hope that this can help you know that we can really recieve personal revelation from Conference. For times sake I will share one of my questions 1. How can I live in the moment and really enjoy my mission more?
I felt like the talk by Elder Neil L. Andersen really answered my question. He talked about having an eternal perspective and how we need to believe in miracles. He asked if we could see the hand of the Lord in our lives. He also encouraged us to Pray with faith to view the hand of the Lord in our lives. I really love the fact that we can have lots of help from the apostles in our days. I also want to note that the talk by Elder Holland cut out so we didnt get to watch it but I am going to look online to watch it in English!! haha.
Also Elder Uchtdorf really hit the nail on one of my other questions.
2. How can I learn to love the mission rules? Sometimes I just feel like I do the things I am "supposed to" but I hate doing them. But he talked about being obedient to the commmandments because WE LOVE Jesus Christ. That hit me like a ton of bricks. I was like DUH Bryce. Come on. I love how he talked about Grace and how it is a gift from God but when we obey the commandment (or mission rules) we are showing our part of HIS gift. I am also going to read his talk in English again so I can really understand more the Grace of God. But I know that this church is true and really that we can recieve personal revelation.

ALSO 2 of our investigators are needing to get married in order to get baptized so I will be PLANNING weddings here in Chile while my brother is getting married without me. Shoot out to Blake! hahah.
Love you all. Tell me what talks were your favs.
Love,

Vicente's Baptism

This week has been kinda long. It was really good! We had another baptism! Vicente (the child of Marcelo and Karina) was baptized!! It was amazing. I loved seeing how happy he really was. Vicente is super smart just like my little brother Boston! (Shoot out to Boston, you are taller than Blake now...sorry Blake!) It is awesome to teach him and learn so much from that family.

Also this week we are going to have an Easter activity. We are going to paint eggs and have an easter egg hunt and have a devotional with the bishop. It is going to be SO much fun! We are putting this activity together to get more references. I cannot wait!! This week is also GENERAL CONFERENCE. It is like Christmas in the mission! We get to hear from our prophet! I cannot wait. I am preparing a list of things that I need help with.

Also the video Because He Lives came out this week. It is AMAZING! We have been showing everyone! Yesterday we knocked some doors and a man came out and started talking to us. He wasn't very interested but I said "Do you want to see a video" and right before he was about to shut the door he said SI! Everyone has iphones here in this area so he pulled up the video and we just were on his porch step watching this video. It was such a special moment. I love technology. He was so receptive after watching the short video. I was so surprised. Anyways this week we are just going to invite people to our activity and to general conference!
Thanks for your prayers. I love you all!
HAPPY EASTER!!

Invasion in Fresia!

Hola,
Well this week was my 9 month mark and one of the traditions is to take pictures as if you are having a baby so Hermana  Smoot and I took pictures. haha.  It was super fun. She made my HUMP DAY super special. We ordered pizza when we came home and it was such a blast! I love the fact that Hermana Smoot goes out of her way to really make each day special. She is the best.

Anyways we had interviews this week and our President was really happy with us because we are the only ones in our ZONE that is teaching close to 10 families. Our President has really been stressing on trying to have us teach families! It is AMAZING! The love President Obeso has for us is incredible. He really is always  worried for us but expects us to work hard. I really appreciate the way that he has been trying to help  us.

New news, we have  more investigators this week and Pamela attended church yesterday! She came with  her two sons. It was so awesome!
We also went to another area this week for a whole day. It was called an invasion! The Elders that are in that area don't have ANYONE to  teach. So the President told all of the missionaries in Puerto Montt to go to their area for the day and find people. Hermana Smoot and I walked and  talked with TONS of people. We had more contacts in Fresia  (the little pueblo  is called Fresia) than  in our own area. But it was so great! I had the idea to fast before we went so we could  have  success. We  fasted all  day Friday  and got there Saturday. We ended up finding a member and she came with us  to knock doors and talk to  people. We asked people for  water and to use their bathrooms just so we could get in their house to  teach them! It was EXHAUSTING! But so good. I  grew lots just teaching  on the  spot and not having any  plans. I know  when we teach with the spirit it really  makes the difference.

I bought a new camera this week so Hermana Smoot  and I took advantage and took some sweet pictures! We also celebrated St. Patrick's Day. But I missed the corn beef and cabbage  that Grandma usually makes! haha. I hope you  all are  having a great week! Keep reading your scriptures! I cannot  be preaching the gospel and telling people to read their scriptures if my own family isn't. haha. I love you all SOOOO MUCH!
Have a great week!

Lord Is It I?

Best day of the mission!
Hermana Karina came with us to TWO appts. It is amazing to really see that the gospel really changes people. She was bearing her testimony about how much the gospel really has helped her in her life. She was so grateful for Hermana Smoot and I that we were able to come all the way to CHILE to find her and to teach her family. It was such a great experience to have her testify of the truthfullness of this gospel.

We have a great investigator that is really progressing! Her name is Daniela! (just like my last convert. haha) She tells people she is single but we know that she is living with her boyfriend. haha. Super weird but we are teaching her lots! We met her 2 months ago watering her flowers outside. She and her boyfriend aren't that religious but we started teaching her about God. She liked what we taught her but then she just fell of the planet. She wasn't ever home and she stopped answering her phone. So we dropped her. BUT we passed by her house because we were in the neighborhood and she was HOME! She said that she has been praying lots and that she started opening the Book of Mormon and just reading what she feels and each time she reads something it is about how she needs to listen and open her doors to listen to the gospel. It was SO cool! I cannot tell you enough that this work is really the work of the Lord. We invited her to come to church and she said she has been thinking lots about it! So yesterday SHE CAME TO CHURCH! We have been praying lots for her. She is amazing. We will be teaching her this week. We are going to teach her the Law of Chasity! It should be fun. haha. :)

UPDATE! Hermano Marcelo received the priesthood this week and now has a calling in the Young Mens! I cannot even believe it! He was in our ward council yesterday talking about how we need to strenghten the youth. It was MIND BLOWING!! Hermana Smoot and I just grab each others arm and just smile so much because they are INCREDIBLE! Their son Viciente is going to get baptized at the end of the month! His mom Hermana Karina is teaching him all the lessons again just to make sure he is READY! haha. I love her.
I know this church is true! I was thinking about something funny that happened this week and I couldn't think of anything. Lo Siento!
But I was reading the talk, Lord is it I? By Elder Utchdorf and I love the part that says "Those who want to improve and progress, those who learn of the Savior and desire to be like Him those who humble themselves as a little child and seek to bring their thoughts and actions in harmony with our Father in Heaven, they will experience the miracle of the Atonement."
I LOVE being a missionary! Tell me about your favorite scriptures that you have studied this week. I would love to hear! :)
Love,

The miracles of FASTING

Well this week Hermana Smoot and I  played volleyball in skirts! haha. It was super fun. We have a "soccer activity" every Friday night. But us sisters are not allowed to play so we always just sit on the side lines and watch our investigators play. But this week we all played volleyball. It was super funny. I forget how short these Chileans are sometimes. I AM A GIANT! But we all played and it was so good to be with the family Santana-Reyes. The parents Marcelo and Karina were confirmed yesterday! It was AMAZING! I love being able to see the joy the gospel really has given them!
Fasting really does help with the mission work. So we have been praying to find more families! Our area is FULL with families so we have been praying to find the ones that are prepared to hear our message. So yesterday was Fast Sunday here since we had Stake Conference the other week. We started our fast and we have been praying to find these families right? Well yesterday right after we had an appt with a new couple. Their names are Marta and Benjamin. They are THE CUTEST COUPLE! Seriously, they got married a year ago and now they are both studying and looking forward for more "peace." They don't know exactly what the want but I can tell you THEY NEED THE GOSPEL!! I cannot tell you how much I prayed for Hermana Smoot in that lesson. I prayed for the spirit so much. I have no idea what I even said in that lesson but I know that it was not me! It was the spirit. I am so grateful for the spirit!! I know that when we fast we really do see miracles in our lives!
We also found another family yesterday that have been through lots! The mom has had 2 of her children pass away! It was so sad to hear about that but I shared Alma 7:11-12 about the ATONEMENT. I love this gospel because literally every principle can be applied to our lives. They are super humbled people that really are looking for help. I feel really honored to be able to meet them and to even be an instrument in the Lord's hand.
We have walked so much this week. My body is ready to DIE! All my tights have holes in them. Hermana Smoot and I took some great pictures of our feet. haha. Good memories! But it is SO worth it because this gospel really does change lives!!!
Best part is that Karina Santana is going to come with us to an appt!! I CANNOT tell you how happy I am to be able to go teach another investigator with our new convert!!! I feel so much LOVE for that family! :) :) :)

p.s. my cousin Rebecca McOmber who is serving in France sent me THE cutest postcard that I wanted to share with you guys. I love her so much!! Shoot out to BECCA! :)

We walk so much that we have holes in our tights!

MARCH! Halfway mark!

Well this week was good. We have had LOTS of wild fires here in Chile....well in the South of Chile. It has been horrible. Hermana Smoot and I have been working to find NEW people to teach. Since the Santana Family got baptized lots of our other investigators have lost interest or have been too busy for us to teach them. Yesterday we had lots of time and we were close to one of the families we met back in January. Each time we got visit them they aren't home. Well yesterday we were right by their house and Hermana Smoot and I had the feeling to go and see if they were home ONE LAS TIME. We went and knocked on the door and they were HOME!!! The lady's name is Ana and her boyfriend's name is Julio (or July in English. haha.) They have 2 REALLY cute girls! We taught them the Plan of Salvation. We sang them "I am a Child of God" and they were fastinated...mostly because Hermana Smoot's voice is like a voice of an angel! But it was AMAZING!!
We also had stake conference yesterday. It was REALLY good!
One of the speakers shared a story from Elder Nelson.
Elder Nelson's daughter came up to her father when she was 14 years old and said "Dad I want to smoke." Elder Nelson said that in that moment he had 3 options to tell his daughter.
1.He could tell her NO! And tell her that if she lives in his house she has to obey his rules.
2. He could give her a diagram of a lung (since he is a doctor) and show her what would happen to her body if she were to smoke.
3. He could give her a hug and tell her how much he loves her and share a scripture with her.
Well he decided to show her love. Show her how much the gospel really helps and protects us! The next day his 14 year old daughter came to him and told her that she didn't want to smoke and that she wanted to do good and live the gospel.
I was really thinking about how I LOVE this story. The Gospel really does protect us! In Ephesians 6:13
"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand."
I know that this armour will help us when we have hardships or trials. Reading the scriptures, saying our prayers and partaking in the sacrament really help build our armour. I love being a missionary!! Even though the food makes me sick and we all have bad days. Seeing the joy that the gospel brings into the life of others is WORTH IT!!
Love you all
